The decision to discontinue AHVRP affiliation was not made easily or lightly. While COVID-19 and its effects contributed, this is a decision based on AHVRP financial and operating issues. The AHA recognizes the value of health care volunteer programs and is working with AHVRP board officers to explore the possible transition of AHVRP to an organization that offers greater alignment. If another association cannot be found, AHVRP will sunset at the end of the year.
The AHVRP Annual Conference & Exhibition scheduled for August 22–25 in Denver is canceled. AHVRP will update member’s regularly on transition developments and will continue to provide member benefits—including certification services and educational programming—as leaders work to determine the future of the group.
On May 1, AHVRP will renew existing memberships at no cost to ensure access to benefits through the end of the year or through the transfer to another organization. More information on the details of memberships, education programs, and certifications are explained in the below FAQ.

Future of AHVRP
Q: Is AHVRP going away completely?
A: AHA and AHVRP leaders are currently discussing the possible transition of AHVRP to another association whose mission aligns with AHVRP. If an appropriate new entity cannot be found, AHVRP will sunset on Dec. 31, 2020. AHVRP will keep members posted on developments in the coming weeks and months.
Q: How did AHVRP get into this position?
A: For the past several years, AHVRP faced increasing financial challenges resulting in operating losses. Despite focused efforts to increase operational efficiency, AHVRP could not achieve a viable business model.
Q: How can AHA end the affiliation with AHVRP?
A: This was a difficult decision. AHA recognizes the value of the volunteer programs and, more importantly, the amazing leaders that make those program possible. AHA and AHVRP leaders are going to do our best to find AHVRP another home. We must serve our members and advance the association's mission as best we can, and to do that we are diligently working on transitioning AHVRP to another association.
Q: How can I keep my member benefits through the end of the year?
A: Starting on May 1, AHVRP will renew all existing memberships at no charge through December 31, 2020 or until the transfer of AHVRP to another association, whichever comes first. This will allow members to access member benefits at no additional charge during this transition.
Q: Can new members still join AHVRP?
A: No. AHVRP will not accept new applications for memberships or membership renewals after May 1. AHVRP will extend exiting members' memberships through the end of the year at no cost to them to ensure access to member benefits during the transition.
Q: I just renewed my membership. Will I get a refund?
A: No. AHVRP is unable to offer refunds to those who joined or renewed prior to May 1. AHVRP will continue to provide member benefits through December 31 to ensure members receive value from their memberships.

Q: Why is AHVRP cancelling the Annual Conference?
A: The decision to cancel the conference was largely driven by the financial challenges facing AHVRP although travel restrictions expected due to COVID-19 also factored into the decision. We know members looked forward to this event, but it was not prudent to hold the Annual Conference this year.
Q: Will AHVRP webinars still take place?
A: Yes. All scheduled webinars will continue through the end of 2020, and members will receive continuing education credits as usual. If AHVRP transitions to another association, archived webinars would be transferred to the other association as part of the transition.
Q: Will the ListServ go away?
A: AHVRP recognizes the ListServ is an important member benefit. Members will continue to have access to the ListServ and the ListServ will be moderated until the end of this year. If AHVRP transitions to another association, the ListServ would be transferred to the other association as part of the transition.
Q: What about AHVRP sponsors, exhibitors, and business partners?
A: AHVRP appreciates the support we've received from business partners over the years. Although we will not be able to hold an Annual Conference this year, AHVRP will keep business partners updated about any future opportunities as discussions continue about the future of the organization.
Q: What is happening to CAVS?
A: AHVRP will continue to provide credentialing services through December 31, including exams and renewals. To be sure the CAVS credential maintains its credibility during this transition, the CAVS credential will continue to be held under AHA through December 31, 2023.
Q: I just renewed or paid for the exam. Will I get a refund?
A :Since the CAVS credential will continue to be maintained through 2023, AHVRP will not be offering refunds on exams or renewals.
Q: My CAVS expires later this year but now I may not be able to earn the CEUs necessary to renew.
A: AHVRP will continue to provide webinars through the end of 2020 to provide the opportunity to earn CEUs.
Q: Is there anything AHVRP members can do to help create a bright future for AHVRP?
